About This Project

Our Mission

Every name a promise: We will never forget, we will be free.

This platform is an independent, volunteer-led archive dedicated to ensuring that no life given for a better future is reduced to a forgotten number or a disputed statistic. Our work is guided by a commitment to the families of the fallen and the integrity of the historical record.

  • For the Families: Every entry here represents a person with a story, a family, and a dream. We document these names so that the families know their loved ones are remembered by a community that refuses to forget. This archive honors the courage of those who sacrificed everything for the hope of a free Iran.
  • For the Truth: To protect against the distortion of history, we provide a reliable, evidence-based repository for researchers and historians. By maintaining a rigorous documentation process, we ensure that the human cost of these events remains an undeniable historical fact, preserved for future generations.

Governance and Transparency: This is a non-commercial, citizen-led effort. We do not seek institutional support or sell data. Our methodology is public, and our records are continuously updated as new evidence emerges to ensure the highest level of accuracy.

Data Sources

Currently, the data for this project is sourced from the following Telegram channel:

@RememberTheirNames

This source uses a very strict policy for gathering the information of those killed. The instructions and rules used by this source include:

  • Mandatory Primary Evidence: Requiring death certificates, official burial notices, or funeral banners.
  • Direct Witness Verification: Information is only accepted from family members or close acquaintances; hearsay and "friend-of-a-friend" reports are strictly rejected.
  • Visual Confirmation: Submission of photos or videos of the deceased or their memorial services.
  • Original Documentation: A total ban on screenshots or reposts from other social media platforms to ensure every record is independently verified.

Methodology

Our documentation process includes the following steps:

  1. Ingestion: Posts from the Telegram channel are automatically collected
  2. Extraction: Name, date, city, and other information are extracted from text
  3. Matching: Duplicate records are identified and merged
  4. Review: Every record is reviewed by a human before publication
  5. Publication: Verified records are displayed on the website

Important: No record is published without human review.
